Four things to look for in your forever home

Your family might be growing, but your current home probably isn’t. Feeling cramped? Longing for more space? Tired of sharing bathrooms or battling for hot water? It could be time to upgrade.
There’s a lot to consider when searching for that important next home. Here are four factors to consider when searching for that forever home:
The right location
First things first, you need to find a home that’s located in a neighborhood that best fits your family’s needs and preferences. Whether you’re looking for an area that has a vibrant downtown, has great schools, or easy access to public transportation, identify where you want to live before starting the home search. Don’t be afraid to get to know your potential neighbors. Get their take on the area. You’ll get the best information from the people who currently live there. Visit the area at different times of the day to get a sense of what it’s like early in the morning or late at night.
The right size
Once you’ve found the area you want to live in, start looking for homes that meet your spatial needs. Compare the number of bedrooms, bathrooms and square footage to your current home and ensure it’s an upgrade. The house could have every amenity necessary, but it won’t matter if you don’t have the space you need. See if there’s a big backyard for hosting barbeques and enjoying the outdoors, or if there’s a spacious basement that can be utilized year-round. Life happens, so make sure you find a flexible home that can grow with you and your family too.
The right home
We’re getting closer, but there’s still some narrowing down left to do. Choose a house that meets your structural, functional and aesthetic expectations. Also, make a list of your deal breakers. Whether it’s granite countertops, a fireplace, or natural light in the living room, determine what’s most important to you in a home and don’t settle for anything less. Evaluate everything from the floor to the ceilings. Make sure the home has the appliances and that stylish look you’re going for. Find a house that truly feels like home. Remember, you’ll be here for at least a little while, so make sure the home you choose is one you will be proud to own.
The right mortgage
Once you find that dream home, it’s time to find a home loan that works best for you. It’s crucial to set yourself up for long-term financial success by choosing a mortgage product. Secure YOUR forever home with a fixed rate mortgage, so you’ll never have to worry about rising rates again.
